Made for you

Made to your size. Every frame is cut, joined and glazed to order, which is why we can't accept returns on made-to-measure frames. Please check your size before ordering.

Arrives perfect, or we remake it. Every frame travels in specialised picture frame packaging. If anything reaches you less than perfect, send us a photo within 48 hours of delivery and we'll remake it free.

Caring for it. Peel any protective film from the glazing, then clean with a soft, dry cloth. Don't use glass cleaner.

Framing a watercolour

A watercolour is painted on paper, so it frames like a print: under glazing, either straight into the frame or behind a mount. Choose the paper size and leave Add my photo unticked: you fit the painting yourself, so nothing needs posting to us.

A mount does more than look good. It keeps the paper off the glazing, which matters for a watercolour, and it hides tape marks around the edge. To add one, pick the frame the painting will sit in and the opening that matches it: an A4 painting goes in an A3 frame, an 11×14" in a 14×17" or 18×24", a 12×16" in a 16×20".

Quarter sheet (11×15") or another size that isn't listed? Custom framing cuts the frame and mount to the painting's exact measurements.

What size frame do I need for a watercolour?

Measure the paper, not the painted area. With no mount, the painting fills the frame:

  • 9×12" and 12×16" - the most common watercolour pad sizes.
  • A4 and A3 - European pads and sketchbooks.
  • 15×22" - half sheet.
  • 22×30" - full sheet.
  • 8×10", 11×14", 16×20" and 30×40cm - other standard pads and boards.

With a mount, the frame is larger than the painting:

  • A4 painting - A3 or 40×50cm frame.
  • A3 painting - 40×50cm or A2 frame.
  • 8×10" painting - 11×14" or 14×17" frame.
  • 11×14" painting - 14×17" or 18×24" frame.
  • 12×16" painting - 16×20" frame.
  • 10×15" painting - 15×22" frame.

A quarter sheet (11×15"), a 9×12" with a mount, or any other size? Custom framing cuts the frame and mount to your measurements.

Should a watercolour have a mount?

Usually, yes. A mount keeps the paper away from the glazing, so it can't stick to it or cockle in damp air, and it covers tape marks around the edge. Straight into the frame suits a painting that runs right to the edge of the paper. Every size listed offers both.

Do I need to send you my painting?

No. Leave Add my photo unticked and we make the frame (and mount, if you add one) and post it to you. You fit the painting at home: open the back, lay it in and close it again. The original never goes in the post.

What glazing do you use?

Clear, shatter-resistant cast acrylic. It is lighter than glass and travels safely.
