Bevel-cut picture mats, made to your size

A picture mat (mat board) sits between your print and the frame, lifting the image off the glass and giving it room to breathe. We bevel-cut every mat to order — choose your outer size and the opening to fit your photo, print or artwork exactly, in plain conservation colors or our patterned ranges. Pick a size above to start.

Mats ship flat and rigid, ready to drop into your own frame. Need the frame too? Browse made-to-measure picture frames or preview your photo in every finish — we cut the frame and mat together so the opening lines up perfectly.

FAQ

Picture mat FAQs

What is a picture mat?

A picture mat (mat board) is a card border that sits between your image and the glass. It lifts the picture off the glass, frames it with a clean margin and gives the whole piece a finished, gallery look.

Can you cut a mat to any size?

Yes. Every mat is bevel-cut to order — choose the outer board size and the opening to fit your print or photo to the millimeter. There are no fixed sizes.

Do you sell the frame as well?

You can order a mat on its own to fit your own frame, or have us make both together. Browse picture frames by size and add a mat when you configure it so the opening lines up exactly.

How are mats delivered?

Flat and rigid with corner protection so the beveled edges arrive crisp and undamaged, ready to drop straight into your frame.

What size mat should I order?

Work from two numbers: the outside size, which matches your frame's glass size, and the aperture, cut slightly smaller than your artwork so the edges sit behind the board. Enter both in the customiser and we cut them to the millimetre — no standard-size compromises.

What is the difference between a single and double mat?

A single mat is one board with one aperture. A double mat layers a second board underneath so a few millimetres of its color show around the opening — the accent line you see in gallery framing. Doubles cost a little more but make photographs and certificates look noticeably more finished.

What is mat board made of?

Acid-free conservation board, 1.4mm thick with a white core that shows along the 45° bevel-cut edge of the aperture. Acid-free matters: standard board yellows and can mark photographs over time, while conservation board won't.
