About this frame

A slim, square 17mm profile — understated and endlessly versatile, in warm natural oak. It suits everything from family photos to botanical and fine-art prints. Cut to your exact size in our UK workshop and shipped ready to hang.

Why this is the gift that gets kept

Mums accumulate more unwanted presents than anyone else in a family, because everyone buys them the same three categories: candles, hand cream, and something for the kitchen. The exception is anything with her children in it. That is not sentiment, it is observation — walk into most family homes and the photographs on the wall were chosen by her.

What to print

  • All the children together, however old they now are. Rare, and worth the group-chat effort to arrange.
  • The grandchildren, if there are any. This outranks everything else in the list.
  • An old photograph of her, scanned and printed properly — her own wedding, or her with her own mother.
  • A collage of the year, if the year had a wedding, a baby or a move in it.

Framing it so it fits her house

You have seen her walls more than you have seen anyone else's, so use that. Match what is already hanging rather than introducing something new: if the hallway is full of oak, buy oak. If you genuinely do not know, white with a white mat is the safest thing we sell and looks deliberate in almost any room.

Scanning an old photograph

If you want to print something from before phones, photograph the original in daylight rather than under a lamp, hold the camera square to the print, and send the largest file your phone produces. It is usually good enough for a 12" x 16". Anything larger and a flatbed scan at 600 DPI is worth the trip.

What do you get a mom who says she wants nothing?
She means she does not want objects. A photograph of her children or grandchildren is not an object in that sense — it is the one gift that is about her rather than for her, which is why it is the exception almost every year.
Which photo should I use?
The one she already has as her phone wallpaper, printed properly. If you do not know what that is, ask a sibling — somebody in the family has the photograph she keeps showing people.
Can several of us go in on one?
Yes. A larger framed print or a multi-photo collage works well as a joint present from all the children, and it costs less each than the separate small gifts it replaces.
How long before Christmas should I order?
