Christmas picture frames, made from your photo

Most Christmas picture frames are sold empty, with a snowflake motif and a slot for whatever you can find. Ours are the other way round: you send the photograph, we print it on archival paper, cut a frame to fit it and assemble the two as one finished piece. What arrives is not a frame to fill — it is the picture already in it, ready to hang.

That distinction matters at Christmas, because the gift is the photograph. A frame is something the recipient has to go and do something with; a framed photo of their family is finished.

Choosing frames for Christmas photos

The photo decides the frame, not the other way round. A busy family photo full of color settles down inside plain black or white. A soft, faded or black-and-white shot can carry more character — oak, ash, or one of the bobbin profiles. Metal suits crisp modern shots; wood suits warm ones. Add a mat and the picture gets breathing space, which is the difference between a print that looks framed and one that looks fitted.

For Christmas specifically, the darker reds and greens and the antique gold and silver finishes read festive without being novelty — they still look right in March, which a frame covered in holly does not.

What resolution you actually need

• A photo straight off a modern phone will print beautifully up to around 16" x 20".
• Screenshots, WhatsApp forwards and Facebook downloads are compressed — ask for the original from whoever took it.
• Older scanned prints work well small; we will tell you if a file is too soft for the size you chose.
• Upload the largest version you have. We never sharpen or crop without showing you first.

Sizes people actually choose at Christmas

For a single portrait on a shelf or hallway wall, 8" x 10" or 30cm x 40cm is the safe choice. For a photo meant to be the thing you see when you walk into a room, go 16" x 20" or 50cm x 70cm — a bigger jump in impact than the price difference suggests. Square photos from Instagram sit best in the square sizes rather than being cropped into a rectangle.

Christmas framed pictures as a set

Three matching frames — one per child, one per year, or one per household — make a wall rather than an object, and they give you an obvious gift for next Christmas too. Order them together and they are cut from the same run of molding, so the finish matches exactly. If you have more good photographs than walls, a photo collage puts a whole year into one frame instead.

Ordering in time

Every frame is cut, joined and assembled to order, so Christmas orders are best placed by early December rather than the week before. The last-order date shown at the top of this page is calculated live for your country, including the postal holidays in between.
