Best Paper for Art Prints: A Simple Guide
The paper you print on changes how your art looks and how long it lasts. Here's what actually matters when choosing.
1. Archival beats everything
If you want prints that don't fade or yellow, start with an acid-free, archival fine art paper printed with pigment (giclée) inks. This is the single biggest factor in print longevity — more than weight or texture.
2. Weight (gsm)
Heavier paper feels more premium and lies flatter. Quality fine art papers are typically 200–340 gsm; anything much lighter feels flimsy for wall art.
3. Texture & finish
Matte and textured fine art papers (sometimes called cotton rag) give paintings and illustration a soft, gallery feel and kill glare. Smoother surfaces can suit fine-detail photography. There's no single 'best' — it depends on the work.
4. Colour accuracy
Great paper is wasted without colour management. Look for a printer that profiles their paper and inks so what you see is what you get, run after run.
Our recommendation
For most art and photography, a heavyweight archival fine-art paper with pigment giclée inks is the safe, lasting choice — and it's exactly what we print on. Upload your file, pick a size, and we print it to order.
