The one Christmas nobody remembers and everybody photographs

A baby's first Christmas is entirely for the adults — the baby will not remember a second of it. What survives is the photograph, and for most families that photograph lives on a phone until the phone is replaced. Printing and framing it is the whole point of the exercise: it moves the memory somewhere it cannot be lost in a backup.

What to put in the caption

  • Their name as you actually call them, not the version on the birth certificate.
  • The year on its own is usually enough — "First Christmas, 2026".
  • Resist adding weight and length. A caption is a label, not a paragraph.
  • Check the spelling twice. It is printed, not written, and it is permanent.

Choosing a frame for a nursery

White and oak are the two finishes that survive a room being redecorated twice before the child is five. The bobbin frames — red, green and sky blue — suit a nursery in a way a plain molding does not, and they photograph well themselves when the picture goes on the family group chat. Whatever the finish, a mat is worth adding: it keeps small hands and glass a little further apart and makes a small photograph look deliberate.

Size

Nursery walls are small and close, so a 8" x 10" or 30cm x 40cm frame is usually right — big enough to matter, small enough to sit above a chest of drawers. If it is a gift for grandparents rather than for the parents, go a size up: they are looking at it from further away.

Ordering

Printed and framed to order. Order by early December; the banner at the top of the page shows the live last-order date for your country, holidays accounted for.

The craft

What makes it special

Great design deserves great craftsmanship. That’s why we do everything ourselves — from the printing to framing — all in our studio. Every material is carefully chosen for its quality and sustainability, sourced only from trusted manufacturers in Europe. While many brands rely on mass-produced frames or outsourced production, we take pride in creating every piece with care — so you receive a product that looks and feels as special as the moment it celebrates.

What goes on a first Christmas frame?
The photograph, their name and the year, usually. We print the caption below the image rather than on a plaque, so it reads as part of the piece instead of an add-on.
Is a frame better than an ornament?
They do different jobs. An ornament comes out for three weeks a year; a framed print stays up. Plenty of families buy both — the ornament for the tree, the frame for the nursery wall.
What if the photo was taken on a phone in bad light?
Indoor Christmas photos are usually dark and slightly grainy. Print smaller, or convert to black and white — grain reads as character in mono and as a fault in color. We will flag it if a file is too soft for the size you picked.
Can I order one every year?
Yes, and people do. Order the same molding each year and they line up as a set — we cut from the same profile, so the finishes match across years.
