A slim, square 17mm profile — understated and endlessly versatile, in a deep, confident black in a smooth, closed-grain finish. It suits monochrome photography, bold typographic prints and anything you want to feel grounded and gallery-sharp. Each frame is cut, mitered and assembled to fit your print — handmade in the UK and shipped ready to hang.

Made to your size. Every frame is cut, joined and glazed to order, which is why we can't accept returns on made-to-measure frames. Please check your size before ordering.

Arrives perfect, or we remake it. Every frame travels in specialised picture frame packaging. If anything reaches you less than perfect, send us a photo within 48 hours of delivery and we'll remake it free.

Caring for it. Peel any protective film from the glazing, then clean with a soft, dry cloth. Don't use glass cleaner.

Choosing a frame for your 12 × 16 inch artwork

Choose a 12 × 16 inch frame for a 12 × 16 inch photograph, illustration or print without a mat. The sheet measures 304.8 × 406.4 mm. Although it is close to A3, it is wider and shorter than an A3 sheet (297 × 420 mm), so the two frame sizes are not interchangeable.

The starting option is frame-only. An optional mat lets you display smaller artwork in the same frame, with openings labeled 8 × 12 or 6 × 8 inches. Measure the entire artwork sheet before choosing: adding a mat reduces the space available for the picture.

If your artwork itself is 12 × 16 inches and you want a mat border, a 16 × 20 inch frame offers a matching 12 × 16 inch opening. Choose the larger frame and then select the mat option. The frame size describes the paper it holds without a mat; the outside dimensions also include the frame profile.

Mat opening labels refer to the artwork size. We cut the window slightly smaller so the mat overlaps the edges and helps prevent the artwork from falling through. Keep any signature or important detail away from the paper’s edge.

What size artwork fits a 12x16 frame?

A 12 × 16 inch frame holds a 12 × 16 inch sheet (305 × 406 mm) without a mat. Measure the entire sheet, including any printed border.

What mats are available for a 12x16 frame?

You can add an optional mat with an opening labeled 8 × 12 or 6 × 8 inches, for smaller artwork. The mat is an extra selection and is not included with the starting frame-only option.

What frame do I need for a 12x16 print with a mat?

Choose a larger frame with a 12 × 16 inch opening. A 16 × 20 inch frame is the usual choice; 15 × 20, 18 × 20 and 20 × 24 inch frames also offer that opening. Select the opening in the larger frame’s options.

Is 12x16 the same as A3?

No. A3 is 297 × 420 mm; 12 × 16 inches is 305 × 406 mm. An A3 sheet is too tall for a 12 × 16 inch frame, so choose an A3 frame for A3 artwork.

Is 12 × 16 inches the outside size of the frame?

No. It is the size of the artwork the frame holds. The molding extends beyond that, so the overall outside dimensions depend on the profile you choose. Allow for the frame border when measuring your wall space.

Are the frames real wood?

Yes. Our wood moldings are solid wood with closed-grain, open-grain or bobbin finishes, handmade in the UK. Metal moldings are real aluminum.

How long does delivery take?

Each frame is cut and assembled to order. Dispatched in 2–5 working days.
